WHY THE LEVEL MATTERS

Choose the Level Your Goal Requires

The best DELE level is not necessarily the highest one you can attempt. Start with the requirement of the university, employer, authority, or personal objective that will use the diploma.

Then compare that target with your current ability and the time available for preparation.

BREAKTHROUGH

A1

Use familiar everyday expressions, introduce yourself, and communicate in very simple situations with a cooperative speaker.

WAYSTAGE

A2

Communicate in common everyday situations involving familiar information, routine needs, and immediate practical matters.

THRESHOLD

B1

Handle many travel situations, describe experiences and plans, and express straightforward reasons, opinions, and explanations.

VANTAGE

B2

Understand complex ideas, interact with fluency and spontaneity, and communicate clearly across a broad range of subjects.

EFFECTIVE PROFICIENCY

C1

Use Spanish flexibly and effectively for social, academic, and professional purposes with precision and control.

MASTERY

C2

Understand virtually everything heard or read and communicate with a very high degree of fluency, precision, and nuance.

Reading comprehension

Interpret written texts, essential information, purpose, structure, meaning, and detail at the selected level.

Listening comprehension

Understand spoken Spanish in conversations, announcements, interviews, and presentations appropriate to the level.

Written communication

Produce and respond to texts with the organisation, range, accuracy, and appropriateness expected at the level.

Oral communication

Present information, respond to prompts, express opinions, and interact using Spanish appropriate to the level.

How Is DELE Scored?

For the general A1-C1 examinations, the four skill areas are organised into two scoring groups. Candidates must achieve the required minimum in both groups.

A strong result in one group does not compensate for a score below the minimum in the other. For C2, candidates must reach the required minimum in each of three integrated tests.

The official final result is APTO or NO APTO. Always review the current scoring guide for the exact level selected.

Preparation principle: exam technique supports performance, but it cannot replace the Spanish competence required by the chosen level.

For learners who need a recognised diploma for education, mobility, or other international opportunities, subject to the receiving organisation’s rules.

Is DELE an official qualification?

Yes. DELE diplomas are awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of Spain’s Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports.

Does a DELE diploma expire?

No. DELE diplomas have indefinite validity.

Which levels are available?

General DELE diplomas cover all six CEFR levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2.

Must I pass A1 before taking A2 or B1?

No. Candidates may register directly for the level they consider appropriate, although a level assessment is strongly recommended.

Do I need a preparation course?

No specific course is required. However, candidates should understand the format and prepare every assessed skill.

Can I take DELE at ELE USAL Indonesia?

Not currently. ELE USAL Indonesia is not presently an authorised DELE examination centre.

Can the school register me?

Not currently. Registration must be completed through official channels and an authorised examination centre.

When are results published?

Publication periods vary by session. Consult the current official results information rather than relying on a fixed timeline.

Is DELE better than SIELE?

Neither is universally better. DELE may suit candidates needing a permanent diploma at a defined level. Compare both routes against the receiving organisation’s requirements.
