DELE exam guide for Spanish learners in Indonesia

OFFICIAL SPANISH CERTIFICATION

An Official Spanish Diploma with Lasting Value

The DELE, or Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera, is an official Spanish language qualification awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of Spain’s Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports.

Each candidate registers for one specific CEFR level, from A1 to C2. Candidates who pass receive the diploma corresponding to that level. DELE diplomas have official status, international recognition, and indefinite validity.

For learners in Indonesia, DELE can provide permanent evidence of Spanish ability for academic, professional, administrative, or personal purposes.

UNDERSTAND THE QUALIFICATION

What Is DELE?

DELE diplomas certify general Spanish language competence according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They are not tied to a particular course, textbook, or school.

A candidate may register for a DELE examination without completing a specific course or previously passing a lower DELE level. However, an accurate level assessment is strongly recommended before registration.

Unlike a placement test, DELE is a pass-or-fail examination for a level selected in advance. Passing B2 awards a DELE B2 diploma; the general examination does not automatically award a lower diploma if B2 is not passed.

WHY THE LEVEL MATTERS

Choose the Level Your Goal Requires

The best DELE level is not necessarily the highest one you can attempt. Start with the requirement of the university, employer, authority, or personal objective that will use the diploma.

Then compare that target with your current ability and the time available for preparation.

A COMPLETE VIEW OF YOUR SPANISH

What Does the DELE Exam Assess?

At levels A1-B2, the examination covers four core communicative skill areas. At C1 and C2, some tasks integrate skills and may include language use or mediation.

Reading comprehension

Interpret written texts, essential information, purpose, structure, meaning, and detail at the selected level.

Listening comprehension

Understand spoken Spanish in conversations, announcements, interviews, and presentations appropriate to the level.

Written communication

Produce and respond to texts with the organisation, range, accuracy, and appropriateness expected at the level.

Oral communication

Present information, respond to prompts, express opinions, and interact using Spanish appropriate to the level.

PASSING REQUIRES BALANCE

How Is DELE Scored?

For the general A1-C1 examinations, the four skill areas are organised into two scoring groups. Candidates must achieve the required minimum in both groups.

A strong result in one group does not compensate for a score below the minimum in the other. For C2, candidates must reach the required minimum in each of three integrated tests.

The official final result is APTO or NO APTO. Always review the current scoring guide for the exact level selected.

Preparation principle: exam technique supports performance, but it cannot replace the Spanish competence required by the chosen level.

DELE Spanish examinations for school-age learners

OFFICIAL CERTIFICATION FOR YOUNGER LEARNERS

DELE for School Learners

The Instituto Cervantes also offers DELE examinations designed for school-age candidates. Their themes and situations are adapted to younger learners, while the diploma awarded has the same official validity as the corresponding general DELE diploma.

Official information distinguishes school examinations aimed at learners aged 11-17 and general examinations oriented towards candidates from age 16. Families should confirm the most appropriate examination and current eligibility conditions before registering.

Before choosing: verify the candidate’s age, Spanish level, examination offered in the selected session, and the conditions of the authorised centre.
